Data Protection
Thank you for visiting our website. Confidentiality and data protection are very important to us. We respect the privacy of visitors to our website and want you to feel safe and secure here. The website of the Leibniz Institute for Prevention Research and Epidemiology – BIPS GmbH may contain links to websites of other providers to which the following data protection declaration does not apply. In the following, we would like to inform you about how we handle your data in accordance with Article 13 of the General Data Protection Regulation [Datenschutzgrundverordnung (DSGVO)].
Responsibility
Responsibility for the data collection and processing as described below lies with the party named in the imprint.
Saving the IP address
We store the IP address transmitted by your web browser strictly for a specific purpose and for a period of seven days in order to be able to detect, limit and eliminate attacks on our website. After this period, we delete the IP address or anonymize it in accordance with Article 6(1)(f) DSGVO.
Usage data
When you visit our website, so-called usage data is temporarily stored on our web server in the form of a protocol. This serves statistical purposes in order to improve the quality of our website. This data set consists of
- the page from which the file was requested,
- the name of the file,
- the date and time of the query,
- the amount of data transferred,
- the access status (file transferred, file not found),
- the description of the type of web browser used,
- the IP address of the requesting computer, which is shortened in a way that prevents personal identification.
The log data mentioned are stored anonymously.
Data transmission to third parties
We do not transfer your data to any service provider. Our webmaster operates our website independently on one of our web servers.
Embed videos
On our websites, we embed videos that are not stored on our servers. So that the call of our websites with embedded videos does not automatically lead to content from the third-party provider being reloaded, we show the cookie consent banner in a first step by first clicking on the "Accept" button.
Only after clicking on the button will content of the third-party provider be loaded. As a result, the third-party provider receives the information that you have accessed our site as well as the technically required usage data in this context. In addition, the third-party provider is then able to implement tracking technologies. We have no influence on the further data processing by the third-party provider. By clicking on the "Accept" button, you give us your consent to reload content from the third-party provider.
The embedding takes place on the basis of your consent, provided that you have given your consent by clicking on the button with the inscription "Load external content". Please note that the embedding of many videos will result in your data being processed outside the EU or EEA. In some countries, there is a risk that authorities may access the data for security and surveillance purposes without you being informed or able to appeal. If we use providers in unsafe third countries and you consent, the transfer to an unsafe third country takes place on the basis of Art. 49 para. 1 lit. a GDPR.
If you have clicked on the button labeled "Accept", the content of the third-party provider will be loaded immediately. If you do not want such reloading on other pages, please do not click on the button with the inscription "Accept".
Cookies
We use cookies on our website. Cookies are small text files that can be stored and read on your device. There are session cookies, which are deleted as soon as you close your browser and permanent cookies, which are stored beyond each individual session. Cookies may contain data that make it possible to identify the device used. In some cases, however, cookies only contain information on certain settings that cannot be related to individuals. We use session cookies and permanent cookies on our website. The processing is based on Article 6(1) Sentence 1(f) DSGVO and serves to optimize or to facilitate user guidance and to adjust the resolution of our website.
You can configure your browser to inform you about the use of cookies. This will make the use of cookies apparent to you. You can also delete cookies anytime via the corresponding browser setting and block new cookies. Please note that in this case, our website may not be displayed optimally and that some functions may no longer be available.

Web analysis by Matomo
Our website uses Matomo, which is a so-called web analysis service. Matomo uses so-called cookies, i.e. text files that are stored on your computer and that enable us to analyze the use of the website.
For this purpose, the usage information generated by means of the cookie (including your shortened IP address) is transmitted to our Matomo server and stored for usage analysis purposes. With the aid of these statistics we can improve our offer and make it more interesting for you as a user. Your IP address will be immediately anonymized during this process so that you remain anonymous to us as a user. The anonymization of the IP address sufficiently takes into account the interest of users in the protection of their personal data. The information generated by the cookie about your use of this website will not be disclosed to third parties. You may refuse the use of cookies by selecting the appropriate settings on your browser. However, in that case you may not be able to use the full functionality of the website.
The legal basis for the use of Matomo is Article 6 (1) item f DS-GVO.
If you do not agree with the storage and evaluation of data from your visit, then you can object to the storage with a mouse click at any time. In this case, a so-called opt-out cookie is stored in your browser, with the result that Matomo is no longer able to collect any session data. N.B. If you delete your cookies, this also means that the opt-out cookie will also be deleted and may need to be reactivated. More information about the privacy settings of the Matomo software can be found at the following link: https://matomo.org/docs/privacy/.
Contact
You have the opportunity to contact us. The data you provide will be recorded and stored electronically. Processing of your data occurs in accordance with Article 6(1)(b) DSGVO. We use your data exclusively to handle your request. Your data will be deleted as soon as your request has been handled.
Within our online presence, functions and content of the service Instagram, offered by Instagram Inc., 1601 Willow Road, Menlo Park, CA, 94025, USA, may be integrated. If visitors are members of the Instagram platform, Instagram can assign the retrieval of the above-mentioned content and functions to the user's profile there. Privacy policy of Instagram: http://instagram.com/about/legal/privacy/. On our website, we use an "Instagram Feed". That allows us to display the newsfeed of our Instagram fan page directly on our website. For this purpose, the plug-in retrieves the information from Instagram and integrates it into our website. We cannot completely rule out the possibility that personal data (e.g. IP addresses, browser data or similar) may be transmitted to the provider of the plug-in or Instagram. If you click on a link in the newsfeed, you will be redirected to our Instagram fan page. In this case, Instagram stores from which website you have accessed our Instagram fan page. If you do not want Instagram to associate your visit to our pages with your Instagram user account, please log out of your Instagram user account. If you have clicked the button labeled "Load external content", the third-party content will be reloaded immediately. If you do not want such reloading on other pages, please do not click the button labeled "Load external content".
Data protection
We take technical and organizational measures in order to protect your data from unwanted access as thoroughly as possible. We use an encryption method on our pages. Your information is transmitted from your computer to our server and vice versa via the Internet using TLS encryption. You can verify this by the fact that the lock symbol in the status bar of your browser is closed and the address line starts with “https://”.
Registration feature
Users have the option of creating a user account. During the registration process, users will be informed of the required information. The data entered during registration will be used for the purpose of using the offered services.
As a result of the use of our registration and login functions as well as of the user account, we store the IP address and the time of the respective user action. The storage of this data is justified by our legitimate interests and serves to prevent misuse and other unauthorized use as well. As a rule, there will be no transfer of this data to third parties, unless it is necessary for the pursuit of our claims or there is a legal obligation according to Article 6(1)(c) DSGVO. The IP addresses are anonymized or deleted at the latest after 7 days.
